The Lower Sproul Plaza area, which houses the Student Union complex, has long been identified as in need of redesign to provide undergraduate and graduate students with a high quality center for student life. In collaboration with campus, student leaders have come together to pioneer a plan for a lively, 24/7, student oriented campus center.

A revitalized Lower Sproul Plaza is envisioned as a “camps living room” where students can engage in social, academic and recreational activities at all hours of the day and night. Students will have spaces for meetings, group study, performance and practice, and for just “hanging out.” The total project budget of $223 million is jointly funded through the Bringing Energy and Revitalization of Sproul (B.E.A.R.S) Initiative Fee passed by students in 2010 and campus funds.
